🍸 Bmw X5 E53 Gearbox Problems
Gear indicator / shift issue. We are experiencing this really weird issue with our 2003 X5 E53 automatic for which I have not been able to find a fix despite of scrolling through lots of posts and videos. Up until a few weeks ago, there was no issue, but then all of a sudden the car would only start in Neutral and intermittently start when
ZF - transmission manufacturer (and same transmissions are used in Jaguars, Maserati's and some Audi's) recommend transmission fluid/filter change intervals as 50 -70k miles. Why BMW calls it a "lifetime" is not clear. Interesting enough that they have changed their approach and with new transmission their definition of lifetime is not forever
JEn W Feb 27, 2023. 2002 bmw x5 3.0 trans fail safe would come on and eventually cause transmission to kick when slowing down. When going slow 30mph or less it ttans kicked. After using the reset with the key and gas pedal to get it out of trans safe it eventually started saying engine fail safe due to trans message appearing many times.
Hey guys, After trying pretty much everything (except the tranny itself which the mechanic says is working fine) I was told to replace the Transmission Control Module to a new/updated one. I am also told that I cannot use a used one and had to get a new one and get it programmed at the dealer around $1000 (BMW X5 01 4.4 at 172k miles).
G. Guest Discussion starter. #4 · May 30, 2018 (Edited) the ABS is not coded well with bmw scanner 1.4, that's why the code failure comes out. I was wrong. I need to know if to calibrate the abs sensors, first I have to code the abs module. I'm going to try to calibrate the sensors, because the fault comes because I have to calibrate the
8Tech. A lot of this is caused by BMW's insistance on the transmission as containing "filled for life" oil. What that actually translates to is "safe for the warranty period" and they will gladly
bmw x5 4.6 2003 model gearbox problem. Wondering if anyone had this problem or a solution, When you first drive the car for the first 5 or 10 mins when everything is starting to warm up, I have a rattle from the gearbox when it changes gear or when I change in manual, I have to drive really slow for around 5 mins or I get the trans fail safe

In fairness, the problem might not have existed when they had it. An auto trans specialist would be your best option, they'll code read it, and tell you what needs to be done. It won't be cheap, I'd budget from between 150-300 for a repair. A lot cheaper than a box, but still a bitter pill to swallow.

I was looking for the EGS (trans controller) because I had my SUV in at BMW and that is what they said the problem was, I needed a new controller and some wire connectors OR harness replacing $3950 for a starting number. The brake light, ABS light and traction control light are on.

It could be a central locking fuse. Look in your manual and/or fuse card in upper glove box to see witch fuse you need to check. you might also pull the central locking switch and check its' function and connector on bottom. If someone spilled a liquid on it, it could be shorting or not working.
